Power out during Super Bowl? We no kea...

Yes, it's true: don't hate me, but we don't care about sports. ESPECIALLY football. Don't be a hater....
So it didn't really matter to us that the power went out at the start of the game...or thereabouts. Power is restored now, but we had a great game of Carcassonne...even if Alex won. Superior intellect, I think.

So I saw 1 maybe two octopuses today. You'll see why there's a maybe in a second:
This is the space/den where I saw one the other day. And it looks like a siphon inside the den, on the left. But I was unsure enough that I'm not really counting 2....As long as there is at least one, I'm happy.
Oh yeah, that's an octopus. No doubt.

And it was breathing, also a good thing.
This pair of Ambon puffers caught the light. They have cool green eyes and pretty patterns.
Two seals on the beach. The volunteers call it "hauling out" and they did. The faces on the crowd protect the innocent....If you can i.d. someone by their legs, you are looking too hard!

This poor Ambon Puffer hiding under a ledge I think was in trouble. The skin looks dark and it was behaving in a very un-Ambon-like way. I don't know what got it, but I was sad. They are usually so energetic and spunky.
 The Hawk Fish was resting.
Pretty clouds from yesterday morning. God is so big, isn't He?
I suspect this drupe shell had a crab inside, but I didn't take it off the ledge, figuring it would be hard to get back in its original locale.
Finally, a semi-decent photo of the Hawaiian Hogfish. Not sure why they're so freaky.
 Another Hawk Fish
A pretty little female Trunk Fish.
And a Lizard fish. This one didn't move at all.
Male Trunk Fish in various states of bending.
 A very nice Parrot fish
And a closeup of the Snowflake Moray's snowflakes..
Supermale Christmas Wrasse. This could be the same fish that ate the Moorish Idol recently. There aren't that many around.
Taking your Snowflake for a walk...ha. The Bluefin Trevally is always interested in eels. Perhaps they scare up food that the Trev can get a bite out of.
This afternoon's swim did remind me why I don't usually go in the afternoons....too many people. Why weren't they watching the game?!

Rastapus

The title for today's post came from my sweetheart: Rastapus! He thought it when he saw the octopus with the rainbow colors:

Isn't it amazing what a little light will do?
I took an embarrassing amount of photos of this octopus. What can you do when they sit still for you?
Look for the little bit of aqua just below the siphon. This is the same octopus but from above it. Surprisingly, it didn't seem to care that I was around. Unlike other octopuses I could mention (and you'll see the photo shortly), it didn't turn dark.

The octopus peeking above and the photos below are all octopus #1. This octopus DID get that angry maroon color.....sensitive, apparently.

You can tell the eye when you see the white lines radiating from it.
This is one of those "you'll have to trust me" shots. There was an octopus in the den and it was very clever, as it placed rocks over the den to disguise itself. Worked pretty well, too.
He'e #3 showing its white siphon for breathing. The eye is just above.

This one was young, but already knew how to peek at me...from a safe place.

I was quite happy with the 4 octopus sightings....I was disappointed to see that the den I thought might be harboring a female brooding eggs appeared empty today, when I could finally find the den. And by the way, they dig and blow out sand, so just because I couldn't see an octopus, doesn't necessarily mean there wasn't one hiding deep inside.
I took the photo above for the little green fish, and was rewarded also with a Brighteye Chromis.
Although it's hard to see, this Peacock Grouper appeared to have a small tang in its mouth.
 Male Trunk or Box fish
 Pretty Moorish Idol

And a big old parrot fish at the cleaning station. These are big fish on the reef, relatively.
Rock Mover Wrasse. None of these prevalent fish led me to an octopus today. The octopus is probably thankful, as these fish pester the heck out of the poor octopuses!
Seal up near the bushes.....I was thinking it looked shy, but my experience has been that they go up there sometimes when they are in the molting process.
And last but not least, a snake eel. These guys don't bother anyone, unless someone steps on them.
I really enjoyed this swim of almost 3 hours. Over 500 photos taken and I am thankful for each one!
Have a great Thanksgiving and hug someone you love.

Let's let the animals talk...

because when people do, they say stupid stuff!
Like the poor, unenlightened girl who, at the showers today at Poipu, informed everyone that it's ok to touch turtles because it doesn't bother them! I asked: How do you know? Are you a turtle? She also said there may be a law about not touching seals, but no one can enforce it! I said, I'll get someone to arrest you! I asked her if it would be ok with her if, while lounging in her living room, someone came up and touched her....The nerve! God gave her a brain. She should use it. So mad. So I will now say not much more and just show you the parade of cool animals today:

ok would you have seen the scorp above this photo? without its yellow and orange fins? It's leaning near the red rock in the photo above..
That's it for the weekend. Be kind to God's creations. He didn't make them for our amusement. He made them for us to appreciate!
