Nice day in the water

A very nice day in the water. The waves had calmed down a bit and I was able to find an octopus near the frogfish. I hope one doesn't eat the other.
You can see the siphon and the suckers.
 And the eye.
Frogfish:

 Kind of acrobatic, really.
You can see the eye, but not easily. And the leaning feet.

They do stick out, with that coloration. I do wonder if it hunts mostly at night.

Saw 3 octopuses today. Here's the one from the deeper side:
You can see the Rock Mover Wrasse that drew my attention at first. The octopus, on the right, is harder to spot.

And then it went dark when I swam down.
I do try to leave them alone...eventually.

Octopus #3: In the shallower side.
After I swam away, it popped up to make sure I was gone.

A bit of sun on its head:

A female Christmas Wrasse ventured by.
And following is the male of the same type of fish:
A small humu:
 Moorish Idol. Love those eyelashes.
 Big Peacock Grouper
 A pair of Saddleback Butterfly
Can you see the flounder? To the right of the rock with algae on it. Look also at youtube: search for octopigirl7. But not yet! I haven't uploaded yet. OK, now you can look. I had to laugh: at the bottom of the youtube page, it asks if anyone in the video is a minor....well, this flounder, being small, certainly is! But no one will bother it. Very good at camouflage. Look for the tail, near the bottom of the photo.
 A Supermale Christmas Wrasse

Trevally and Goatfish fishing together. Not sure the goatfish agrees to this, but...
The Trevally can be pretty forceful.
Another shot of the flounder. Just a bump on the bottom.
Very happy with the animals provided today. And the lesser waves.

A break in the waves

Started out in the shallow, Keiki Pond today. My thought was to find an octopus and the frogfish. I was halfway right. (The octopus turned out to be in the deeper side.)

I had to wait for a break in the waves to get out to see the frogfish, but it was there:

You can see that the water was flying, but i was still able to find the little guy. I am rather surprised that s/he stays in the same general area. But I'm also glad!
And there's the he'e. The only one I saw. It was in the deep side, so not easy to get down to where it was. Also, the waves were making serious bubbles in the water, so.  That's the best I could do! This was a "repeat" octopus that I have seen before.
Here's the fishing hook I took out of the water. The darn line was long and hard to keep in my bag, so I felt it every now and then against my leg. The hooks are up near the orange part. Gnarly.
Abudefduf. ha. love the sound when you say it.
And the barracuda. I told a fisherman one was there; he replied that he had seen one over in the deep side, too.
 brighteye chromis
 Christmas Wrasse
Nice clouds. Interesting to see a person underneath. Makes you realize how huge it was.
Cornet fish. I call 'em plaid.

A big honu swam by me.
Above, the juvenile of the Yellow Tail Coris. Below, the adult. Amazing how different they are!
Fleabite Cone shell. Pretty sure it was occupied, so I didn't even think of touching it. And now that I'm looking again at it, you can see a bit of the animal at the top of the shot, poking out of the shell.
These shells have venom, so it's best not to pick them up.
I had a very nice swim. I can hardly wait for winter, when the water could actually be flat!!!

My pay was $20.25, an octopus and a frogfish!

Somebody had money in their pocket and now it's in mine! I can't believe someone lost folding money out of their pocket, but I was able to dive down and snatch it up. That'll help me buy another pair of dive gloves...a wave snatched one of mine this morning. Ah well.
If you don't look closely, you'd almost think it's a rock.
Hidden pretty well, don't you think?

The frogfish wasn't particularly well hidden, especially since it's yellow.

But I was glad the waves gave me a break, so I could get out there. They were slamming today! A smart blogger would have caught a few pix, but...

3 Bluefin Trevally in a parade.

Barracuda was pretty well hidden. I see them rarely, but that doesn't mean they aren't there! They tend to hang out where it's murky/hard to see.

 Male Trunk or Box fish
 Needlefish

These sticky white things are part of a cucumber, I'm told. My friend, Royden, says if you pull on one of the strings, they will pull back. ha.
Due to conditions, only 85 pix today, but I'm glad I got any, what with the condition of the water.
